64th Washington International Competition for Piano

Audience Prize:$ 1,000

3 other finalists will receive $1,000 each. The Winner will be offered a Solo Recital in Washington, DC. Solo Appearance with the FMMC Avanti Orchestra in Washington DC.

Additional info:

No changes in repertoire permitted past the deadline date.

All applicants will be notified of the results by mid March.

Housing will be offered to all semifinalists in private homes and will include access to an excellent piano.

All contestants are responsible for transportation to and from Washington, DC.

Applicants must not be under professional management.

Alternates between Piano, Strings and Composers, and Voice every year.

Active participants:
16 participants will be selected for the Semi-final
6 participants will be selected for the Final

Program:

Repertoire (60 - 90 minutes)

  1. J. S. Bach - Any work in its entirety.
  2. An entire Classical Sonata of one of the following composers:
    • Mozart
    • Haydn
    • Beethoven (excluding Op. 49)
  3. One major work from the Romantic Period.
  4. One substantial work from the 20th or 21st century.
  5. One piece of the contestant’s choice not to exceed 10 minutes in length.Piano concertos are not allowed.

Preliminary Auditions (35 minutes maximum)

Free program taken from the Repertoire and recorded on video.

Semi-final

Participants will be asked to play all or a part of their program. (see Repertoire above)

Final

Participants will be asked to play all or a part of their program. (see Repertoire above)
