The winner of the competition will receive a Bösendorfer concert grand piano model 200.

Open for pianists born between January 1, 1981 and December 31, 1996.

The preliminary auditions for the 14th International Beethoven Piano Competition will be held in Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York City, London, Paris, Bonn, Berlin, and Vienna in January/February 2013.

Preliminary Auditions

  1. One of the following works:
    • Group 1: Sonata from Op. 2 No.1 to Op. 26, except Op.14 Nos. 1 and 2
    • Group 2: Sonata from Op. 27 to Op. 90, except Op. 49 Nos. 1 and 2, and Op. 79
    • Group 3: Sonata Op. 101*, 106*, 109, 110, 111* or Diabelli Variations Op. 120*
  2. One of the following works:
    • Group 1: Sonata from Op. 2 No.1 to Op. 26, except Op.14 Nos. 1 and 2
    • Group 2: Sonata from Op. 27 to Op. 90, except Op. 49 Nos. 1 and 2, and Op. 79
    • Group 3: Sonata Op. 101*, 106*, 109, 110, 111* or Diabelli Variations Op. 120*
    Choosing two works from the same group is not permitted.
  3. One of the following works:
    • Op. 34
    • Op. 35*
    • 24 variations on the ariette "Venni amore" by V. Righini (1790) WoO 65
    • 12 variations on a Russian dance from the ballet „Das Waldmädchen” by R. Wranitzky WoO 71
    • 32 variations in c minor WoO 80
    The works chosen for the preliminary audition must be the same with those prepared for the competition.

First Round

  1. One of the following works:

    Group 2: Sonata from Op. 27 to Op. 90, except Op. 49 Nos. 1 and 2, and Op. 79

  2. One of the following works:
    • Op. 34
    • Op. 35*
    • 24 variations on the ariette "Venni amore" by V. Righini (1790) WoO 65
    • 12 variations on a Russian dance from the ballet „Das Waldmädchen” by R. Wranitzky WoO 71
    • 32 variations in c minor WoO 80
  3. One of the following works:
    • Bagatelles Op. 33
    • both Rondos Op. 51 Nos. 1 and 2
    • Fantasy Op. 77
    • Polonaise Op. 89
    • Bagatelles Op. 119
    • Bagatelles Op. 126
    • Rondo Op. 129
    • Andante favori WoO 57

Second Round

  1. One of the following works:

    Group 1: Sonata from Op. 2 No.1 to Op. 26, except Op.14 Nos. 1 and 2

  2. One of the following works:

    Group 3: Sonata Op. 101*, 106*, 109, 110, 111* or Diabelli Variations Op. 120*

Final Round with orchestra

Two of the following concertos:
  • Op. 15, or Op. 19, or Op. 37
  • Op. 58 or Op. 73

Jury will select only one concerto for the Final

Playing by memory is mandatory
Participants are requested to include one of the pieces marked by an asterisk (*).
