Young conductors will perform in Carnegie Hall

Eight conducting fellows from across the United States and Canada have been selected by the Carnegie Hall Choral Institute and the Young People's Chorus of New York City to take part in the Transient Glory Symposium, led by 2011 MacArthur Fellow and symposium artistic director Francisico J. Núñez, which from February 15 to 18, 2012 will provide three days of intensive training workshops and performances of new music commissioned for young voices for the Transient Glory series.

One of the selected fellows, Dominick DiOrio  will conduct and work with Paquito D'Rivera on Tembandumba, Mr. D'Rivera's 2010 Transient Glory commission. Mr. DiOrio was a participant in YPC's first choral symposium at NYU in 2005. He is currently director of choral activities and associate professor of music at Lone Star College-Montgomery in Houston, Texas

Internationaal Kamermuziekfestival Schiermonnikoog

Starting March 2012, the Internationaal Kamermuziekfestival Schiermonnikoog will be organizing a new annual event: a week of Schiermonnikoog Masterclasses. Earlier experience has proven that Schiermonnikoog is the ideal place for talent to grow, thanks to the quietness of the natural surroundings and a unique island culture. The Schiermonnikoog Masterclasses consist of four parallel masterclasses (violin, viola, violoncello and piano). Participants may be invited to play during the Internationaal Kamermuziekfestival Schiermonnikoog in October.

Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in Los Angeles

The USC Thornton School of Music and the LA Phil in partnership with The Colburn School and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra bring together masters of the cello and young cellists from around the world for a unique celebration of the cello, its music, and its musicians. Twenty-two outstanding artists, representing twelve countries, converge on Los Angeles for ten days to share their artistry and teaching experience through orchestral concerts, chamber music performances, master classes, and interactive events.

Tchaikovsky finalist Nigel Armstrong to play with Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra

Violinist Nigel Armstrong, who won fourth prize in last year's 14th International Tchaikovsky Competition, will make his debut with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra  this weekend.  The 21-year-old American violinist has recently been brought to international attention by winning several prestigious violin competitions. These wins include the Buenos Aires International Violin Competition in Argentina, the Yehudi Menuhin Young Violinists International Competition in Norway, and the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Russia.
