New Rachmaninov Concerto Discovered!

Bakitone International is proud to announce that in collaboration with the government of Papua New Guinea we made a unique discovery today, which will turn the classical music world around and will bring new joy to an audience of millions of music lovers in major and minor concert halls of the planet. The trombone version of the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Sergei Rachmaninov has finally been discovered!
During the last intense 40 minutes, most of the recording labels contacted us and agreed to provide their best conductors and orchestras for recording of this masterpiece. Celebration CD is scheduled to be released for the Christmas season as a gift to audiophiles and their families around the globe.
Waiting is difficult, we know. So for those of you, impatient ones, we present you with a sneak peek! But first and foremost, we must thank the soloist, an amazing young trombonist, for making this video available, but who wished to remain anonymous. Enjoy the video!

1st International Piano Competition ''Manuel M. Ponce'' announced

The State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra just announced the 1st International Piano Competition "Manuel M. Ponce" to be held from December 6th until 12th, 2010. The competition will take place in a beautiful concert hall, the Felipe Villanueva Hall, in Toluca, Mexico.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage, support and promote (without considering nationalities, school or artistic trend) young people devoted to the study of piano. It is the organizers" most intense wish to keep alive the name of Manuel Ponce - one of the most important and influential composers among Mexican music creators. The competition is organized thanks to the support of the Government of the State of Mexico, the Cultural Institute, the Federal chamber of Deputies, and the Patronage of the State of Mexico Symphony Orchestra.

2nd International Competition “The Muse Junior” announced.

At one of the most beautiful islands of Greece, on the island of Santorini, the International Association of Art "The Muse" once again organizing an International Competition for Young Musicians "The Muse Junior". Auditions will be held in the mansion of the 17th century from September 3 " 7, 2010. Beautiful concert hall "Megaro Gyzi" has long been famous for its excellent acoustics and attracts thousands of people from around the world visiting the island.
This year the 2nd International Competition "The Muse Junior" invites young musicians up to 17 years of age playing the piano, violin, cello, as well as wind instruments. The contest will take place in one round in three age categories: junior, intermediate and teenage.

Results of the 6th Yuri Bashmet International Viola Competition

The competition took place the same day as its founder, Yuri Bashmet's birthday - January 24. After the First Round auditions in the Rachmaninov Concert Hall of the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, 19 violists from Russia, Hungary, France, China, Korea, and the USA were selected for the Second Round, which took place on January 27.
The Final Round occurred on January 31. Finalists performed Sinfonia Concertante by Mozart, and Concertos by Bartok, Walton, and Schnittke. The esteemed jury discussed the results until late in the evening, clearly marking a difficult competition. They announced the results of the 6th International Yuri Bashmet Viola Competition as follows:
1st Prize was shared between Alexander Akimov from Russia and Peijun Xu from China
2nd Prize, also shared, went to Elias Goldstein from the USA and Irina Sopova from Russia
3rd Prize was awarded to Armen Nazarian from Armenia
Congratulations to all the winners!

And the Grammy goes to... Vladimir Ashkenazy

We at Bakitone are thrilled to announce that our very own patron, the esteemed Vladimir Ashkenazy, was the recipient of the Grammy for Best Instrumental Soloist(s) Performance (With Orchestra) at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on January 31st.
The award is given to both the Instrumental Soloist or Soloists and to the Conductor. For their recording of Prokofiev - Piano Concertos Nos. 2 & 3 - Vladimir Ashkenazy, conductor; Evgeny Kissin, piano; along with the Philharmonia Orchestra, have won this most prestigious music award. Congratulations to Maestro Ashkenazy, as well as to Mr. Kissin and the Orchestra.
